Once again the escape does its thing! This time the Ecuadorian rider Richard Huera (Movistar Best PC) took the victory in the eighth stage of the Tour of Costa Rica 2023, an undulating section of 117.2 kilometers, which took place between Pérez Zeledón and Oreamuno.

The South American cyclist emerged victorious, defeating the Costa Rican cyclist Kevin Rivera (7C – Economy – Lacoinex). While Juan Diego Alba (Movistar Best PC) from Boyacá came in 3rd and assumed the lead in the general classification.

On the leg-breaking day, which featured almost 3,000 meters of accumulated positive slope, the escape of the day was carried out by the Costa Rican Kevin Rivera (7C – Economy – Lacoinex), the Colombian Juan Diego Alba ((Movistar Best PC), the Ecuadorian Richard Huera (Movistar Best PC) and the Dutchman Kenny Nijssen (Universe Cycling Team).

In the closing, there was an interesting head-to-head between the four escapees, in which the Ecuadorian showed himself to be the strongest to take the well-deserved victory, in a sprint going upwards.

This Sunday the penultimate stage of the Tico round will be held, around Paradise, on a 90.9 kilometer route in mountainous terrain, which includes three third category mountain prizes. The successor of Colombian Marco Tulio Suesca, last year’s champion, will be known on Monday, December 25 in La Aurora (Costa Rica).
