In another great demonstration, the young Kevin Castillo (Team Sistecredito) dominated the sixth stage of the Clásico RCN 2024. The rider from Risaralda, who won his third consecutive victory, thus strengthened his position in the lead of the race.
The revelation of the ‘Duel of Titans’ took the victory, after riding 195.5 kilometers between Armenia and Cali in 04’02:41”. Castillo was followed by two Boyacenses: Aldemar Reyes (Team Medellín-EPM) 2nd and Adrián Bustamante (GW Erco Shimano) 3rd, both one second behind.
As for the general classification, the risaraldense Kevin Castillo (Team Sistecrédito) increased the advantage with his rivals. Now Cristian Camilo Muñoz (Nu Colombia) is 19 seconds behind him and Diego Pescador (GW Erco Shimano) at 25 seconds.
The day began with multiple attacks in the early stages, however, none prospered because of the high pace imposed by the peloton led by Team Sistecrédito.
After more than two hours of racing, the breakaway of the day was formed by Brandon Rojas (GW Erco Shimano), Cristian Vélez (GW Erco Shimano), Emilio Echavarría (Ron Viejo Caldas), Juan Manuel Barboza (Orgullo Paisa), Edison Osorio (Ron Viejo de Caldas), Santiago Ramírez (Avinal-Alcaldía El Carmen de Viboral), Alejandro Ruiz (100 % Huevos-Alcaldía de Manizales), Julián Cardona (Team Medellín-EPM), Víctor Contreras (Nu Colombia), Sergio Luis Henao (Nu Colombia), Juan Carlos López (GW Erco Shimano), Rafael Pineda (Nu Colombia) and Ángel Rivas (JB Arroz Zulia-Calzado Power).
Before the start of the last climb the breakaway disintegrated with an attack by Venezuelan Ángel Rivas (JB Arroz Zulia-Calzado Power), however, minutes later he was caught by Alexander Gil (Orgullo Paisa), Edgar Andrés Pinzón (GW Erco Shimano) and Sergio Luis Henao (Nu Colombia), but at the end they were caught by the favorites, where the leader Kevin Castillo (Team Sistecrédito) was the strongest to take the victory, his third in the race.
The seventh stage of the ‘Duel of Titans’ will be disputed this Friday over 186.8 kilometers between Palmira and Pereira, in another mountainous finish. The successor of Aldemar Reyes, last year’s champion, will be known on Sunday in Bello, Antioquia.
