The excitement of the 2026 Tour of Honduras has come to a close, and the dominance of the Guatemalan continental team, Team Hino One La Red Suzuki, was evident in the overall standings and other classifications, with Mardoqueo Vásquez crowned the overall champion of the Honduran race.
The Guatemalan rider proved to be the most consistent throughout the five stages held in Central America. Mardoqueo, who was the top foreign rider in the Tour of Colombia, climbed to the top of the podium, accompanied by Honduran Fredd Matute (4WD Rentacar Facatativá) and his teammate, Colombian Andrés Mancipe, who finished second and third, respectively.
The fifth and final stage was contested on a flat 70.56-kilometer circuit and was won by Canadian Jonah King (Momentum Racing). His teammate, American Liam Olson, finished second, and Andrés Mancipe (Team Hino One La Red Suzuki) from Boyacá, Colombia, finished third.
Mardoqueo Vásquez excitedly celebrated the victory and emphasized how special it was to be back competing: “Last year I couldn’t come and compete. Thank God I’m here this year and I was able to achieve this important accomplishment for Team Hino and for all of Guatemala,” stated the Guatemalan cyclist.
A very positive outcome
The champion also spoke about his upcoming goals and preparations for the next challenges of the season. “My team and I have been preparing, coming off the Tour of Colombia and now the Tour of Honduras. My main objective is the Tour of Guatemala,” Vásquez noted, making it clear that the best is yet to come.
“This race was a very positive experience, and I’m motivated for the rest of the season,” stated the champion, who also dedicated the victory to his loved ones. “I dedicate this victory to God and my family, who are with me through thick and thin,” Vásquez concluded, with words that moved all the Guatemalan fans.
