Mexico, Chile, and Trinidad and Tobago reached the top of the podium in the first two days of the Track Cycling Americas Cup, which this time is being held at the Peñalolén velodrome in the Chilean capital, from May 13 to 16.

Mexican cyclist Ricardo Peña, 25, won the Elimination race on Thursday, accumulating 150 points, leaving local competitor Diego Rojas with the silver medal (135) and Argentinian Iván Ruiz with the bronze (120).

In the points race, the Mexican finished behind host Ignacio Manbran, who scored 85 points compared to Peña’s 69; Brazilian Fabio Pereira was third (57). Trinidad and Tobago dominated the Madison event, ahead of the Uruguayan duo Luciana Wynants and Paola Silva Wynants, while a Canadian-Chilean pair took the bronze.

The Trinidadians, through one of their most emblematic figures, Teniel Campbell, also secured gold in the elimination race, with Uruguay’s Paola Silva joining her on the podium. Meanwhile, Makaira Wallace won the keirin, followed by Chile’s Daniela Colilef and Colombia’s Bula Álvarez in second and third place, respectively.

Chile made its mark at this Americas Track Cycling Cup with Maite Ibarra, champion in the omnium with a total of 132 points, surpassing Teniel Campbell herself (127 points) and fellow Chilean Scarlet Cortés, who finished third with 122 points.

In total, this stop of the Track America Cup brings together more than 100 specialists in speed and middle-distance events, from 12 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, Uruguay and the host, Chile.
