The cyclists Miryam Núñez and Jonathan Caicedo dominated the time trial of the National Championship of that sport that is being held this weekend in the city of Tulcán, in northern Ecuador.

The podium was completed by the runner Esther Galarza with a time of 29:40.

“I feel happy and blessed to be here. She was a thorn that brought her from the previous year because of everything that happened. They are mixed feelings and we are going to move forward, ”said Nuñez, in statements collected by the Ecuadorian Cycling Federation.

For his part, Jonathan Caicedo was the fastest and the first to reach the finish line among the men after a 37-kilometre route. The previous leader of that test was Richard Carapaz, who won that modality last year, but this time he decided not to participate.

The cyclist belonging to the Ef Education club scored his third victory in the time trial in the elite category with a record of 45:50 minutes, escorted by Jefferson Cepeda from Caja Rural at 53″ seconds and by Alexander Cepeda, from the Vaugthers team, behind 1:15 minutes.

Carapaz, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, is expected to appear this Sunday in the star test of the event, a 178-kilometer route through Tulcán, capital of the province of Carchi, his homeland.

It is a route that the organizers describe as very explosive, with demanding points such as the ascent to the airport along Avenida Brasil, the slope of the Panamericana towards El Barrial and the ascent up the cobbled Avenida de la Cultura.

The event arouses the interest of Ecuadorians for having the participation of the best cyclists in the country.
