This Sunday the third stage of the 2023 Cycling Tour took place and ended with victory for Pablo Anchieri. The cyclist from Náutico Boca del Cufré took the day and was also the leader in the general classification.
The section that linked Durazno with Trinidad ended with the victory of Anchieri (03:14:43) over Roderyck Asconeguy from Villa Teresa (03:14:44) and Leonel Rodríguez from Cerro Largo (03:14:51) who were he won the sprint.
“It is not a dream, but it is something very gratifying, which has a lot of value. It is one of the oldest races in America, it has its weight. The return is the return, it is always said. Having the leader mesh for one lap is an important achievement in my career”, Anchieri assured after coming down from the award ceremony.
The sprint crowned Anchieri, who had the third charm, and he was “happy and grateful to the team, which, although it is not numerous, makes us give what we are worth.” The dream of winning the Vuelta is still far away, but the winner of the day and provisional leader is not discouraged:
“There are always options; the chance is always there, from the moment you start. The theme is going to be on the right day, you don’t know what it is, of course. At the right time and with legs, it’s like a target shot, but from afar. If you take advantage of that exact moment, things can happen to you, but I’m not one of the favorites to really win it,” Anchieri said.
In the special awards, Rodríguez recovered the green mesh from Sprinter, while Enrique Peculio kept the red one from Cima, although he was not in the packaging this Sunday. Nicolás Méndez took advantage of the leader’s absence to close the gap by winning the second Cima package.
Asconeguy himself and Agustín Moreira (Cerro Largo) are the ones who follow Anchieri by two and five seconds, respectively, who leads the general classification with a time of 11:11:45.
The team table is led by Cerro Largo (33:36:07), closely followed by Villa Teresa (33:36:08) and San Antonio de Florida (33:36:36).
This Monday the peloton will pedal 159 kilometers from Trinidad to Mercedes, passing through Cardona. On Tuesday the race will have a double stage, leaving tomorrow for Paysandú and an individual time trial in the heroic stage in the afternoon.
