That makes two! Repeating the feat for the second time, French rider Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step) won again in the 2016 Giro d’Italia, this time in the third stage, a 175-kilometer route between the cities of Plovdiv and Sofia, concluding the stage’s journey through Bulgarian territory.
The young French sprinter once again demonstrated his exceptional form, outsprinting all his rivals. Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) finished second, and Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (Unibet Rose Rockets) came in third.
As for the Colombians, both finished in the peloton. Einer Rubio (Movistar Team) finished in 82nd place and Egan Bernal (Netcompany Ineos) in 116th, both with the same time as the winner.
Regarding the general classification, Uruguayan Thomas Silva (XDS Astana Team) maintained his lead, while Egan Bernal (Netcompany Ineos) from Zipquirá held onto third place.
Monday will be the first rest day. The Giro d’Italia will resume on Tuesday, back in Italy, with the fourth stage of the ‘Corsa Rosa,’ a 138-kilometer route from Catanzaro to Cosenza, featuring a second-category climb and a slightly uphill finish.
