He was the top favorite to win the first time trial of the Tour de France 2024 and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick Step) has fulfilled the forecasts in a resounding way, to achieve victory against a splendid Tadej Pogacar, who sold his skin, and Jonas Vingegaard who remains in the fight for the Tour as well as Primoz Roglic.
It was a vibrant day to the stopwatch, in which the Belgian Evenepoel, got right into the fight for the lead of the Tour de France 2024 after winning the seventh stage, an individual time trial of 25.3 kilometers, held on Friday between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin.
The time trial world champion signed the triumph with a time of 28:52″ at an average speed of 52.58 km / h., beating Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) by 12 seconds and Primoz Roglič (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) by 34″, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
As for the Colombians, Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain – Victorious) placed 27th at 1:55, Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) 36th at 2:16, Harold Tejada (Astana Qazaqstan Team) 40th at 2:22 and Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) 166th at more than 5 minutes behind the winner.
This Saturday Pogacar will start in the leader’s jersey with a lead of 33 seconds over Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick Step) and 1:15 over Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike).
The 111th edition of the French race will continue this Saturday with the eighth stage, an undulating day of 183.4 kilometers starting in Semur-en-Auxois and finishing in Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises.
