The increase in covid-19 cases in the country and the projections that experts and the Ministry of Health have presented regarding the pandemic wave have forced the Costa Rican Cycling Federation (FECOCI) to move the Vuelta a Costa Rica agreed for the month of March to December 2022.

The decision is made known from this moment to avoid any type of inconvenience later, even at times when some international team tickets, accommodations and details that no longer had the opportunity to change were already paid and were closer to March.

“After long conversations with the health authorities, sponsors and the Board of Directors, in addition to some teams, we came to the conclusion that it is best to move the Vuelta to December, we hope that the pandemic will improve significantly after all the curve that we are going to have in the first months of the year due to the omicron variant, “said Óscar Ávila, president of the Costa Rican Cycling Federation.

It should be noted that the Federation has made great efforts with both public and private companies and will continue this year making links to develop the event in the best possible way in December.

“We thank all the Municipalities and sponsors who are signed up with the Vuelta; The change of dates does not affect anything and rather it is a preventive measure since keeping the event for March could generate many economic losses for the teams and the Federation cannot expose the finances at this time, “added Ávila.

It is important to mention that the Fecoci will hold events throughout the year in the different modalities for the development of cycling and reach the top for the end of the year, complying with all the health protocols established by the country’s authorities.
