Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) has had a brilliant start to the 2024 season by winning his country’s national title in the time trial and taking second place in the long-distance race.

Carapaz also stood out in the Tour Colombia 2.1 by finishing in second place in the general classification, after winning the fifth stage that finished in Alto del Vino.

Now, the Ecuadorian is preparing to continue his season in Europe, where he will participate in O Gran Camiño on February 22. Later he will be on the start list of the Strade Bianche on March 2 and on the 4th of the same month he will be in the Tirreno Adriatico.

Before starting his activity in the Old Continent, Richard Carapaz was consulted about the current situation of Egan Bernal.

Carapaz highlighted Bernal’s recovery after the accident he suffered.  “Egan has recovered very well. He has been seen in good shape and is positive. I was at the accident and I saw how it went. I was in those moments and it was very hard. To see him now like this makes me very happy. He’s a cyclist again and that must make him feel very good,” he said in an interview with Marca.

On the other hand, Richard Carapaz was asked about the return of Nairo Quintana to the World Tour. The Ecuadorian had a short answer about Nairo, so many interpreted some kind of bad relationship. “About Nairo I don’t know, no comment,” he said.
