Defeating the top favorites, Dutchman Ryan Gal won the men’s U23 time trial—covering 31.3 kilometers—at the 2026 Road World Championships, held on the streets of Montreal, Canada.
The rider from the Netherlands clocked a time of 37 minutes and 26 seconds to secure the victory, finishing seven seconds ahead of his closest rival, Italian Nicolás Milesi, who took second place. Spaniard Héctor Álvarez rounded out the podium.
The top South American finisher was Argentina’s Mateo Kalejmann, who placed 26th, 2 minutes and 9 seconds behind the winner. The young Argentine rider—who had previously beaten Walter Vargas at the South American Games—lost steam in the final stretch and finished outside the top 20 in the time trial.
As for the two Colombians in the race, Robert Plazas (from Boyacá) finished in 29th place, 2 minutes and 32 seconds behind the winner, while Juan Diego Quintero (from Valle del Cauca) finished 31st, 2 minutes and 36 seconds behind Gal.
