The rainy start of the Tour de France with an individual time trial had Yves Lampaert as the surprise winner and the first leader, on a day in which the weather was decisive. Daniel Martínez was the best of the Latinos in action with the 33rd place.

The 109th edition of the Tour de France started with a rainy individual time trial through the central streets of Copenhagen, over 13 kilometers away, theoretically flat, but with some short city climbs: bridges and level crossings.

Unlike the time trials, the starting order varied with the GC favorites going first, then the favorites for the day’s win, and finally many of the other riders. Among the three Colombians, the first to leave was Daniel Felipe Martínez, then Nairo Quintana and finally Rigoberto Urán.

In the middle of the puddles and the caution of the majority, Bauke Mollema achieved the best time during the first stage of the day, but then Mathieu van der Poel arrived at full speed, who sat in the hot seat.

One of the two main candidates for the title, Primoz Roglic, had a good performance and passed the finish line with a time close to that of van der Poel, to provisionally occupy second place.

Moments later the two favorites came out to take the stage; World champion Filippo Ganna hit the road first, beating van der Poel from afar, but less than five minutes later Wout van Aert arrived, with unbeatable top speed, managing to beat the Italian and take first place.

With a little less rain, it was the turn of the current Tour champion, Tadej Pogacar, who had a good intermediate time, which improved near the end, to the point that he finished just two seconds behind van Aert and beating the world champion.

When it seemed that the stage would give few more changes, several turns later Yves Lampaert appeared, who took advantage of the absence of rain and that there were fewer puddles to go at full speed in the final stretch of the route, to beat van Aert by five seconds. (15m:17s).

In the last 70 innings, the situation changed little in the first places and the Belgian Yves Lampaert took a surprise victory, achieving the leader’s jersey and the first stuffed lion.

Daniel Martínez, dressed in the national time trial champion jersey, was the best of the Latinos in the fight.
