Colombian cyclist Manuela Loaiza was officially registered in the historical records of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) after her performance at the Junior Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Xalapa, Mexico, where she set a junior world record in the kilometer time trial.
The new mark was officially recorded in the UCI’s historical record books with a time of 1:07.659, achieved on May 8th at the Xalapa International Velodrome, becoming the new junior world record in the event.
With this ratification, Loaiza officially inscribes her name in the history of world cycling, surpassing the previous record held by Briton Erin Boothman, who set a time of 1:08.092 at the European Junior Championships in Anadia, Portugal, in 2015.
The Colombian sprinter’s performance in Mexico was one of the highlights of the continental competition, thanks to an outstanding execution from a technical, physical, and strategic standpoint, further solidifying Colombia’s current strength in sprint events.
Manuela Loaiza’s junior world record confirms the growth and strengthening of the Colombian Cycling Federation’s training and high-performance programs, especially in track cycling, where the country continues to position itself among the leading powers in the continent and the world.
In addition to this historic record, Loaiza delivered a remarkable performance at the Junior Pan American Track Championships, winning continental titles in the kilometer time trial, individual sprint, and team sprint, and establishing herself as one of the great emerging figures in international cycling.
It is worth noting that Colombia holds two world records in the junior women’s category. In addition to the record achieved by Manuela Loaiza, Stefany Cuadrado, also from Antioquia, holds the best time in the 200-meter flying start with 10.508, a mark she achieved during her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Colombian Cycling Federation celebrates this official recognition from the UCI, which represents a source of pride for the national sport and a testament to the talent, discipline, and potential of the new generation of Colombian cyclists.
