CARACAS. The local cyclist Orluis Aular was crowned today champion of the 56th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Venezuela that closed in the state of La Guaira (north-central).

The podium was completed by also Venezuelans Carlos Galviz (second place) and Jhonathan Salinas (3rd), both of the Táchira Sports club.

The victory of Clever Martínez, member of the national team of Venezuela, in the eighth and final stage of the Vuelta could not influence the advantage that Aular accumulated, who with a remarkable performance, was awarded five of the eight stages of the cycling competition .

A total of 120 cyclists, representing 10 Venezuelan teams and six foreigners, participated in the 56th Tour of Venezuela, registered in the calendar of the International Cycling Union and contributing points to the classification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The event also served as preparation for the Venezuelan national team that will compete in the road cycling test of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which will begin on Friday, July 26 in the capital of Peru. (Jorge Molina / Xinhua)
