Crowning another breakaway, Laureano Rosas won the fifth stage of the Vuelta de Mendoza 2024 with a high finish. The Argentinean rider of Swift Carbon Pro Cycling released his rivals in the last meters and soloed to the finish line.

The experienced 33-year-old Gaucho rider took the win after 135 kilometers between Las Heras and Villavicencio. Second to finish was Agustín Durán (Venzo) and third was Rodrigo Díaz (Municipalidad de Guaymallén). Colombian Nicolás Paredes (SEP San Juan) came in 4th and is still in the fight.

The breakaway of the day was led by Colombian Jhoan Sebastian Lesmes (Sapito Bike), who was accompanied by Marcos León Rodríguez (SEP San Juan), Higinio Lucero (Sindicatos Unidos) and Darío Alberto Álvarez (Gremios por el Deporte), but after half of the course they were neutralized by the peloton.

Then another adventure was set up with Leonardo Cobarrubia (SEP de San Juan), Alejandro Corvalán (Municipalidad de Guaymallen), Leandro Velárdez (Municipalidad de Guaymallén), Emiliano Montoya (Muni San Carlos), Martín González (FAS Electricidad-Roma Auto) and Mauricio Domínguez (Gremios por el Deporte), but before reaching the mountainous area they were caught by the favorites.

The Mendoza race will continue this Friday with the sixth stage of the “most Argentinean of laps” starting in Lavalle and finishing in Junín.
