As if to validate the forecasts that catalogued him as one of the great candidates to the victory, the Pan-American champion of individual time trial Walter Vargas (Team Medellín-EPM), took the victory in the day to time trial of the Tour of Venezuela 2024 and is the new leader of the race.
Vargas rode at an average speed of 52.23 Km/h, and managed to reach the leadership of the Venezuelan round, which today tested the riders over 22.4 kilometers of distance in the city of Barquisimeto, during the fourth stage of the event.
The rider from Antioquia used a time of 28 minutes 43 seconds to take the time trial and reach the lead, beating by more than a minute his compatriots Javier Jamaica and Samuel Flórez.
The masterful performance of the team from the capital of Antioquia, which also leads the team classification, left Vargas the winner and leader, Javier Jamaica second overall and the U-23 David Gonzales 4th.
Vargas will defend his leadership this Thursday in the fifth day that will be completed over 135 kilometers, between the towns of Barquisimeto and Nirgua.
