Isaac del Toro has finalized his training schedule for the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, which will take place from September 20-27 in Montreal, Canada.
Tadej Pogačar’s absence due to injury opens up the field of contenders for the rainbow jersey, and the Mexican cyclist appears as one of the main favorites.
To prepare for the last major goal of the season, Isaac del Toro plans to compete in the Grand Prix du Québec (September 11) and the Grand Prix du Montreal (September 13).
Although his team, UAE Team Emirates-XRG, has not yet confirmed its selected riders, the organizers of both races have already announced the Mexican cyclist’s participation in both events.
These are two World Tour classics (one-day races) that will be held in Canada, and the second serves as a dress rehearsal for the World Championships. The Montreal Grand Prix is a 16-lap race around the Mont-Royal circuit, a 13.4-kilometer track that includes three short climbs, notably the Voie Camillien-Houde.
It’s a perfect circuit for explosive riders like Isaac del Toro and will also be part of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, although in that case the cyclists will complete 12 laps instead of 16.
It’s a perfect race to familiarize oneself with the World Championship course in real-world conditions.
How did Isaac del Toro fare at the last World Championships?
The Mexican Isaac del Toro was one of the standout cyclists at the last World Championships, although he didn’t reach the podium.
In the men’s time trial, the Ensenada native finished in 5th place, 2:40 behind the Olympic champion, Remco Evenepoel, and just four seconds off the podium.
In the online test, Del Toro was one of the rivals who best withstood Pogačar’s challenge, but he paid the price for his effort in the final part of the race and finished in seventh place.
