Uruguayan cyclists Luciana Wynants, Iván Wynants, and Paola Silva capped off an outstanding international performance at the America Cup, a UCI C2 track cycling competition held at the velodrome in Asunción, Paraguay.
The team, led by Milton Wynants, thus concluded an intense tour that included competitions in Chile, Peru, and Paraguay, achieving significant results and gaining valuable international experience.
After a brilliant first day, in which Luciana and Paola dominated the Scratch, Elimination, and Points Race events, the cyclists once again took center stage on the final day of competition.
Luciana Wynants was crowned champion of the Omnium, one of the most demanding events in track cycling, which combines four different disciplines and rewards consistency throughout the entire race. Behind them was Paola Silva, who once again climbed onto the podium, taking the silver medal.
In this way, the athletes from Paysandú confirmed their excellent form and once again demonstrated their potential against competitors from different countries across the continent.
Meanwhile, Iván Wynants had another strong showing in the sprint. The young cyclist managed to qualify among the top eight in the 200-meter round, advancing to the final matches of the event, although he was unable to secure a top finish.
Uruguay, thanks to Luciana Wynants’ three gold medals, dominated the event, which also saw medals for Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and even Paraguay.
The omnium was the most prominent event in the men’s competition on the first day and was decided by Argentina’s Rubén Ramos’ superior position over Brazil’s Fabio Pereira, after both finished with 132 points. The bronze medal went to fellow Brazilian Lucca Marques, with 128 points.
With a lap gained alongside Hugo Ruiz, Antonio Alfonso secured Paraguay’s only victory of the event in the scratch race, where Fabio Pereira finished third. The elimination race was also held on the second day, with Ramos, Marques, and Hugo Ruiz taking the podium. Pereira and Samuel Reikdal secured a Brazilian one-two finish in the points race, with Ramos again on the podium.
Peruvian Francis Cachique won the keirin on the first day, defeating Brazilians Joan Vitor Da Silva and Arthur Joner. Da Silva avenged his earlier loss to the Peruvian, beating him in both heats of the sprint final, with Joner again completing the podium.
As for the women, with very few participants, Peruvian Luz Laoyza triumphed over Argentinian Adriana Perino Liz Sánchez in both the sprint and keirin events.
