The Mexican Cycling Federation and sports authorities confirmed the official selection of Olympic cyclist Yarelis Salazar to join the national delegation that will compete in the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, scheduled for September 20-27 in Montreal, Canada.
The Sinaloa native will assume a leading role in the team time trial mixed relay, backed by a season of international victories in North America.
Salazar will share the Mexican national team with the leading figure in contemporary Latin American cycling, Isaac del Toro, who arrives at the World Championships after a stellar season that included his historic overall podium finish at the 2016 Tour de France.
This duo combines Salazar’s tactical prowess in endurance races with Del Toro’s time trial power, creating one of the most competitive Mexican teams in UCI history.
Under the guidance of Spanish coach Javier Sola, Salazar has had a solid 2016 season on North American professional circuits with his Caldera Medical Aurea Racing team, as well as significant victories in official competitions representing his country.
Among her achievements are individual championships at the Portland Criterium after a high-speed sprint, the 63rd edition of the prestigious Manhattan Beach Grand Prix in California, and the Gran Giro de Guadalajara, in addition to a third-place finish at the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix in Vancouver and her participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
This competition in Montreal represents the second elite road world championship for the cyclist from Culiacán, following her performance in Belgium in 2021—where she completed the demanding 180-kilometer course—adding to her Olympic experience in Tokyo 2021 and her numerous appearances in track cycling world cups, a discipline to which she plans to return in the next training cycle.
